First of all, I must get the requisite whining and crying out of the way. I am sick! I have been denying the onset of a cold for the last week (oh, it’s just allergies), but yesterday morning I started getting feverish, and by 1400 every joint in my body was screaming. I finally asked the nurse supervisor to leave early when the coughing started, because I was concerned about spreading cooties to my patients. I had been keeping my distance from them all day, but they would need transfers to showers and such, and who wants clean, rhinovirus-covered bedding?
I was on the Pediatric floor, but I took mostly the adult overflow patients because I have zero peds training and I don’t really like the little boogers feel comfortable with children.
Ironically, even though I felt like I was really dragging, I actually got a job offer for unit coordinator 2 nights a week. It’s a promotion from floor tech, and with the shift differential, I’ll be making more money than I do know for less crazy work than my home care/float pool stuff. The hours are 7p-7a, so I can even take the bus if I want to. And there is tuition reimbursement because I’ll be part-time not PRN. Of course, there are also children. And babies. Sick ones. But I got through yesterday without dropping any of them, so I should be okay.
