I made it to the hospital and took care of everything for my transfer to Peds. I even spoke to my manager in home care. She said–again–that I had made a great turn around at the hospital float pool and she thought I would be great in Peds. I said–again–that it was less of a turn-around on my part than proving wrong the catty evaluation from the CNA I was shadowing on my first day.
I’m glad I got everything done before the weekend, but it really made me realize how sick I am. My manager at the hospital actually thought I have the flu. It’s hit the state pretty hard. I got my flu shot, but that ’s never 100%. I told someone I thought I might have a strain the vaccine missed, and he said that I’m supposed to get the flu from my flu shot so my body can make antibodies to it. Well, he was sort of on the right track. I was too sick to explain. So much for teaching moments.
